βSo he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, βFather, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.” – Luke 15:20β-β¬21
Here’s a story about a son who asks his dad for his inheritance way before it’s time. His father grants his wish & he chooses to go far away & pretty much “lives it up”. After some time has passed, he runs out of all the inheritance that was given to him. He realizes he was better off living with his dad because he had all that he needed. When he finally came to his senses, he realized he had turned his back on his father. He chose the life he thought would be much more satisfying than the life he had been currently living only to leave him feeling empty & lost. When he realized what he had done, he committed himself to go back & ask for His father’s forgiveness. His father had been waiting for him all this time. Once he saw him from a distance, he ran to his son. Embraced him with opens arms & celebrated his return.
How many times have we chosen to do things OUR way & refused to follow God’s way?! I wonder how many of us have turned away from God & have been so ashamed of our mistakes, poor choices & decisions to turn back to Him? How many of us have felt unworthy of His love or forgiveness?
I’m here to let you know – God loves you. He is waiting for your return. He is waiting to embrace you in His loving, gracious & forgiving arms. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. He is willing to forgive you. Many of us have made decisions in our lives that others have yet to forgive us for. Maybe they never will. We might even be unwilling to forgive ourselves but God’s grace is sufficient. Others might have convinced us that our sin is so big that God is incapable of forgiving us. Look – sin is sin in God’s eyes. It doesn’t matter if you cheated on your spouse, had an abortion, slept with a married man/woman, have had sex with multiple people, used drugs, you fill in the blank. No matter what you’ve done, His grace overcomes ALL! Of course, His grace isn’t a licence to continue living in sin & live a life that isn’t pleasing nor honorable to God but He knows how we are incapable of changing on our own. He knows how difficult it is for us.
However, He is more than able to transform & restore us as long as we are able to acknowledge our ways & come to Him with a sincere & humbling spirit ready to turn away from our sinful nature & allow Him to work in us & through us so that we can live the life He has laid out for us & be used as a vessel to share His love & grace to others. So many of us have waited so long to finally turn to Jesus due to our shame & guilt but He loves us soooo much that He took our place on that cross & paid for our sins so that we can have eternal life with our Father in heaven but it’s a decision we must make. He can’t make it for us. A father will never force Himself upon us but will wait patiently to embrace his child.
Unfortunately, tomorrow is not guaranteed but we have TODAY to turn to Him & allow Him to be the Lord & Savior of our lives. This doesn’t mean we will change over night (although He’s capable of making that happen) but as long as we are willing to allow Him to help us – You will be amazed at what He’s capable of. There’s no greater love than His.
Until next time, many blessings & much love. – πππ»
