There are some cynics who give a lot of bad press about Venice. They say it’s overrated, that it’s a tourist trap, that it is unsanitary and unhygienic, even that it is odorous. However, a lot of people are just as passionately loyal to Venice and what it stands for. Venice, after all, is one of its kind, it is a unique place and therefore, one of the most visited cities in Europe and in the world.
Because Venice is not that big, the crowd wanting to experience Venice makes the place dense, but all great tourist cities are dense. Foot traffic is one of the best indicators of how interesting a city is, and certainly, Venice is one of the most interesting judging from the droves of people that flock this city every year.
Yes, the canals are a sort of flooding, in a way, and there are some issues related to untreated water, but the city takes care of ensuring health and safety for its millions of visitor year round.
There is even rumors that the city is sinking, and it is true, but not in a radical manner. Not only Italy, but organizations around the world are rallying to ensure Venice lives on for the next generations to enjoy.
