Joining group tours has many advantages. First, you need not worry about your accommodations, transportation arrangements, even where you’ll have lunch and dinner are all covered and arranged in group tours.
Second, you need not worry about where to go, what to cover in such short times, research for them and all. You simply hop in the tour bus, snooze on the way if you like, and you will be delivered right at the doorstep of your destination. Group tours offer an organized, structured way of covering the most stops in the most efficient manner. But is this what you really like?
The very organized and structured nature of group tours may work to your disadvantage in the long run. You are not the boss of your own schedule, and this is not a good idea if you are looking for adventure, for spontaneity. Traveling is all about experiencing the sights, sounds and feel of a foreign land and this you just can’t do on a group tour.
Plus, with today’s information technology, it is so easy to be your own travel agent. Simply call or send an email to the airlines, hotels, and museums you need, and you can even book them ahead online and in advance. In fact, you can even save some more if you do everything on your own. If you book early enough, or if you choose the right time, you may find yourself a sweet deal or two, which may not be available for group tours.
Being your own travel agent also lets you command your own schedule. If you want to stay in bed for a couple more hours, then you can easily do so without feeling the guilt of having your tour mates wait for you.
