Traveling is great, it enables every one of us to have new experiences, to broaden our horizon to see beauty in a different form. However, the more we travel, the bigger footprint we have so there is a pressing need for us to be green travelers so that we can somehow help protect the environment from the harsh effects of our activities. While the green movement revolves around a highly technical complex principle, there are so many simple things we can do to help. Most of them will actually be logical, and will even result to cost savings.
Whenever I travel, I always make it a point to bring my very own reusable water bottle which I can refill with water, so I don’t need to buy bottled water.
That’s at least three plastic bottles a day I don’t use. If I am traveling for a week, that’s equivalent to twenty-one plastic bottles less in trash. Plastics take a very long time to decompose, if they even do and bringing my own water bottle even lets me save a lot of money. This goes the same for any packed products like toiletries.
When it comes to getting around the cities and provinces, I go for the most fuel efficient compact car, and whenever I can, I take public transport. Again, it does not only save on energy. It also helps me save on money.
Most of all, I choose a room that has no air conditioning: cheaper, better, greener. These are just some of my green practices. I’m sure you can find something to do as well.
